SBU students

The SBU Advantage

  • Thrive in small class sizes in which you will receive personal attention, individualized instruction and one-on-one advisement as you pursue your education and career goals.
  • Be challenged to think deeply about the relationship between faith and culture and the influence of Christianity in your history courses.
  • Develop valuable skills in analytical reasoning, research and communication that will serve you well within the discipline of history and many other professions.

Faith Integration

The integration of Christian faith with the study of history distinguishes SBU's bachelor's degree in history. You will receive a well-rounded, complete overview of history using the "3-D approach" to studying history — considering the body, mind and soul. Course curriculum and discussion carefully considers the undeniable impact of Christianity on world history and how faith perspectives influence history and world issues. For example, when studying African history you will consider the impact of missionaries to Africa in the development of African cultures.

The area of history and political science adopts a Scripture passage each semester that helps shape the focus for the semester and provides intentionality in the integration of faith and academics.
